Physical volcanology, Geological fluid dynamics

Hello! I’m Jong Gil (JongGil) Park, a PhD candidate in the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences at Rice University in Houston, Texas.
I study how magma rises toward the surface and why some eruptions are explosive while others produce lava flows. I use computer models to explore these question, drawing inspiration from observations in the field. My broader interests include hydrothermal systems, where heat from magma drives groundwater circulation in volcanic regions.
